Counseling for Friends & Family of Addicts

“An apology without change is just manipulation.”

If you are struggling with the addictive behavior of a loved one and it’s consuming your life, you need help in how to deal with the overwhelm of your loved one’s addiction. Whether it’s drugs, alcohol, pornography, work or… fill in the blank, they are in crisis and most likely you are too. This is a dance we do to try to “help” the one we care about. Somewhere along the way we lose ourselves. We feel helpless and we are tired.

If you’re an adult child of an alcoholic/drug addict you grew up with a different set of rules. This has probably caused difficulties in your adult relationships and the way you cope in life. You may suffer from long term anxiety or depression and not really know it.

Beloved, you can help yourself in the midst of this and in so doing set up the best possibility for their recovery. You are driven by fear of what might happen, what already happened, and the possibilities in your mind have you spinning and just trying to control the situation. You may be anxious and depressed and the rest of your life gets the left overs. You’re starting to realize this is a losing battle. It’s time to stop the madness and seek some help. Trust me I know.

Issues related to families of addiction I deal with:

  • Codependency/Enabling
  • Boundary development
  • Trauma resolution
  • Relationship conflicts
  • Coping skills
  • Grief
  • Stress management
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Adult children of alcoholics

I have many years of experience with addiction issues. Nothing causes us to lose perspective like living with an addict. Especially if we are telling ourselves they’re not an addict or it’s not that bad. Honesty with ourselves is the all-important first step. Until then we are part of the problem. I can help you get clarity and move forward towards healing and wholeness. Contact me if you would like to talk further.
